How to use OnePage Genealogy (version 2.2) for Macintosh OS X
- When you open OnePage Genealogy it will ask you to select a GEDCOM file. Locate your GEDCOM file on your computer and click Open.
If you need help creating a GEDCOM file click here.
- Wait while your GEDCOM file is loaded.
- Root: Type the name of the person you want to be the root person on the tree in the box in the upper left of the options screen (surname first) or select them from the drop-down box by clicking the down arrow next to where you can type the name in.

- Generations: Select the number of generations of ancestors and descendants you want to include about that person in the section below the name. Checking the All box for ancestors means that all of that person's ancestors in the GEDCOM file will be included on the chart. Selecting None means that none of that person's ancestors in the GEDCOM file will be included on the chart. Unchecking both of these boxes will allow you to specify the number of generations back to include on the chart manually by typing a number in the box to the right. The same rules apply to the controls for descendants.
- Chart Style: Select whether you want to include the root person's spouse on the chart by checking the appropriate box in the upper right of the options screen. Select whether you want to create a traditional generational pedigree chart or a timeline chart by selecting one of those options from the list in that same region. The Advanced button below this allows you to chage the colors of the different genealogical lines for ancestors on the chart.
- Font: The font size and typeface options are in the lower left of the options screen. The sizes are the range of text sizes that the software is allowed to place on the chart. Usually you won't need to change these options.
- Page Format: The chart size and orientation options are in the lower right corner of the options screen. The sizes of charts we print are on either 2 foot, 3 foot or 3.5 foot paper and can be any length from 1 foot to 6 feet. Select the length and width of the chart according to the size of chart you want. Remember that if you want to show more information and generations on the chart, then you will need to specify a larger size. The orientation can be either landscape or portrait. If the information you are trying to display would fit better on a chart that is taller than it is wide, then leave the portrait option set, otherwise change it to landscape.
- Click the Create button to create the chart in a PDF file. Type in a name for the chart in the box labeled Save As and specify a location on your computer to save it to. Click the Save button. Remember this name and location so you can find the chart file when you want to order a print.

- Wait while you chart is created and saved.

- When you chart is done it will open so you can look at it. Make sure the chart looks the way you want. If something doesn't look right you can change the options in the software and create another chart.
- Note: The software will attempt to abbreviate a name, place, or date if it is not possible to fit it in otherwise, like for example, leaving off the middle and/or first given name of a person. If there is no possible way to fit the information in at all by abbreviating it and making it the minimum specified font size, then it will leave the name off. If you have this problem, then we recommend that do one or more of the following:
- Use a larger paper size.
- Use a landscape orientation chart (assuming the genealogy is not very dense)
- Reduce the number of generations you are going to display on the chart.
